This fursuit is a collaboration between [info]media2wolf , [info]jesus_potato , [info]2x2l , and myself.

I promised a few more pictures of the tail, so here ya go!:

Hello. I'm working on a set of foot paws for the Cheshire cat, and I'm going to be using rubber mats or flipflops depending on if I can find them in the right color. I want these to be able to be walked around in wherever the person is.

The pads are going to be attached to crocheted socks and crocheted pillow toes. Because of the way that I'm crocheting them, the socks can stretch, which will make gluing the pads on difficult. Because once they are glued, the socks will either not stretch, or will stretch and break the glue.

I was thinking of poking holes in the rubber and sewing them on, but then you have the yarn stitches that you can see on the pads, and the yarn might wear through with walking which will make them fall off.

Any other ideas on how to attach rubber parade paw pads to footpaws? Or any other ideas on what I can use as paw pads?

First of all, thanks to everyone for the help on my last post! :)

Second, last year I made a rabbit for myself for Easter, and since I sold the 'suit a few months ago to a friend of mine I'm looking to start on a new bun for myself, with Easter right around the corner! What I'm looking for is a bit of inspiration. Can y'all post toony rabbit foamwork? It helps me a lot to look at the foamwork as opposed to the finished head, since I remember the rabbit I made last year being the most trouble I've ever had making a fursuit head due to the muzzle shape. (Though obviously I'd love to see finished rabbits, as well. n_n)

Picture added for reference. This is the sort of look I'm going for. :O

Hey, sorry for yet another post but I've run into some trouble with my resin eyes and I'm not quite sure how to fix it ^^;

So, after days and days of waiting for my resin to cast I finally took them out of the mold today and this is how they turned out:

All cloudy and swirly with a bunch of tiny little air bubbles. I followed all the directions on the box (I used Easycast Clear Epoxy Resin) and all the steps in Komicakrazi's tutorial, and they turned out like this. I have to admit though I did have the sinking suspicion that they weren't going to turn out right when the epoxy was a yellowish color when I was mixing it, but when the color didn't go away after close to 5 minutes of mixing I figured it was supposed to be that color.

So yeah... if anyone has any tips I would appreciate them greatly!

After wearing my suit for a prolonged period at a con for the first time, I confirmed what people suggested to me when I posted the finished version: I really need to shave the fur around the eyes, it's obstructing my vision! And giving me a fierce expression to boot (that's okay since it's a gryphon, but I'd like to soften that look a bit). I had trimmed it with scissors prior but was very conservative with my cuts because I didn't want to cut it too short and/or butcher it. I think I need to buy whatever everyone else seems to be using...electric clippers? What exactly am I looking for, where can I buy one, and how much will it cost?

I really don't like the idea of having someone cover me in duct tape all in one go (especially the crotch bit, eek!) so was thinking, can you do it in two parts?
Like, could I make a tape pattern of my legs and waist up to say, my belly button, cut that off, then get someone to tape the top part of me, and tape them both together?
You wouldn't have the problem of getting too hot, needing the toilet etc either XD

Also, does anyone have a diagram of where seams on a bodysuit go?

Thanks!

Any idea where I could buy some 1 inch PE foam? Like a specific store or type of business to look for as I'd prefer to stick locally, but I'll buy online if that's the only way to get a reasonable connected amount.

I was just wondering what kind of fur do some of you use for the hands and feet paws. I usually use DF's 2'' long pile, however, they sometimes get a bit bushy and wild down at the fingers and toes. At the moment, I just shave the darn thing, dealing with the hassle.

Do most of you just shave them or is there some nice middle ground with other types of fabric? For instance, I never tried cubby or similar types.

Thanks for looking ;3

So, I was just chatting my mate, discussing shitty As Seen On TV products, and the Flowbee came up...then I had a revelation...

I think this thing was made for trimming fur! Because of the suction, the pile wouldn't lay down as you moved across the fur, and there'd be no mess.

I can't believe that I'm the first to think of this, so I was wondering if anyone out there has tried shaving fur with a vacuum attached trimmer, such as the Flowbee. Does it work?

Thanks for the help!

For those of you who make bodysuits, how do you sew them up?
Do you hand sew them? use the machine? or a combination of the two?

How do the results hold up? Would you say one is better than the other?
Thanks for answering my questions :)

Howdy y'all! My name is Ava. This is my first mask attempt, so be gentle with me!

I recently endeavored (re: pestered until I could be allowed) to make a head for our school's stage-rendition of the Princess Bride. I mean, what is the Princess Bride without a Rodent of Unusual Size?

I have the foam base done, and my teacher will be bringing me the fur in a few days time. Before then, I'd like to get the pattern for the fur ready, and the mask completely reading for furring.

BUT THEN I REACHED AN IMPASSE!!! Here is where I need the help, and I apologize if it's come up many times.

So, here I have the foam head base. that I need to clean up to be less CHUNKY but y'know

also a video of a test-run I did of the moving jaw to be sure it was finally straight!
I've read a lot of tutorials on taping and furring, but I'm very confused due to some conflicting comments.
I understand that taping the head, and then cutting the tape off, is a good method to create a pattern that you can then cut out. However, some tutorials have you keep a layer of duct tape on the mask, which you can glue fur to. Others say that keeping the tape on for furring is a big no-no. But then others advise it as it's easier to glue the fur to than foam! OH MAN, WHAT, WHO DO I LISTEN TO? Have I mixed methods? Can someone explain this to me?

Since I finished it.
Meet Fria the Raver fox:

I think I might have posted WIP pics of her on here before, but I finally finished her and am hoping to sell her and deliver her at the con.

more pics )

This is my second attempt at making a fursuit. She is sort of paying homage to my days spent as a Raver candy kid when I was in high school.

As far as critique goes, she is a bit asymmetrical. For my next fursuit I'm making I'm planning on trying to pay a bit more attention in achieving symmetry. All the seams are hand sewn on so she should be sturdy and long lasting.

So for quite a while this has been bothering me, how do you make those almost realistic poofy hand paws? All i can think up is using an existing breathable glove and add foam to beef them out and make them look more rounded and well, more real looking. I am ever so slowly working on a personal suit and the hand paws are rather massive and thick, and i cant figure out how to get the look i want. I've looked in the memories and couldn't find what i was looking for. Any help would be awesome, thanks!

Ok so after my last entry, I went back to the sewing board. I cut down the claws considerably and put another coat of modge podge and clear nail polish on them. I think they turned out better, and I like the fact that I can sew them on more securely than I could with sculpty.
Pictures )

So Next pair I work on I need to refine how I sew in the center paw pads, and I think I want to start out with the claws altogether smaller, but I see promise in this method.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions on the other post.

has anyone used these?
http://paperclay.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CPP&Product_Code=0214
they are supposed to soften in hot water and be moldable. they have a warning about the resulting shape being prone to heat damage at temps above 135/57 but that is the same as a glue stick so there should be no worry there right? but just how durable is the stuff? any tips on molding it? the instructions on the bag i have here are making me not even wanna try it :S

Hey guys, I'm new here. I am in the process of building my first fursuit and actually cerated this account just so I could get some feed back from you guys! So as I said, this is my first fursuit, it's of a character named Sammael, or Sam for short. Unfortunately I don't have any reference pictures but he's a hellhound/demon creature, with a wolfish face, red fangs and a black and red coloring. I haven't attached the fangs yet nor the eyes but I think I have the base of the head pretty much done. I just wanted to post pictures here and maybe get some feed back on it ^_^

We're going to keep this short and sweet (Frank and birthday vgifts will be back next week). You've probably seen the updates to our main menu. Don't be alarmed. You'll find everything you need, just in slightly shifted format. Just so you know, we based these changes on input from both experienced and new users who were not familiar with LiveJournal. Our goal was to reduce barriers to usability and make LiveJournal more accessible and easy to navigate. Please note that this is a work in progress. We welcome your detailed suggestions in [info]feedback. We thank you, in advance, for helping us improve your LiveJournal experience.

We've updated the global navigation menu:

Here's a quick breakdown of what you'll find where:
  • Scrapbook can now be found under Profile (thanks for your feedback, btw), along with Settings, Stats, and Edit Profile.
  • You'll find all the tools you need to post and update entries under Journal, which includes posting and editing entries, managing comments and tags, and customizing your journal's style.
  • Friends contains all of your friend settings, from filtering your Friends page to adding, removing, and finding new and existing friends on LiveJournal.
  • Under Communities, you'll find links to manage your communities, accept community invites, and create new communities.
  • Explore includes search features, RSS feeds, Question of the Day, and FRNK radio.
  • Under Shop, you'll find links to upgrade or give a paid account, buy virtual gifts, purchase LiveJournal merchandise (like T-shirts), and view your payment history.

LiveJournal Mobile update:

We've enhanced LiveJournal's mobile site to improve usability and load times. We've made more of LiveJournal's features accessible via mobile, including posting comments, uploading photos, reading and commenting on friends' posts, finding and messaging friends, and more. We look forward to reviewing your feedback and recommendations for future improvements.

Other important changes:

  • You can lock comments to prevent further commenting on a post, while leaving existing comments visible.
  • We replaced the "Tell a friend" link with a new "Share This" widget that lets you share LiveJournal posts on other social media sites, including Facebook, Digg, Twitter, etc.
  • We changed some of the icons on entries (you can hover over the icons to view descriptions).
  • You'll see a Tag count on your Tag management page.
  • You'll now see the 10 most recent vgifts on your profile page. To remove vgifts, left-click on the vgift and choose whether you want to remove the vgift from your profile or delete it entirely.
  • We've added options to help you control receipt of vgifts, which you'll find in My Stuff under Edit Profile. You can now enable vgifts from friends or everyone and disable anonymous vgifts.

We've got your fix:

  • UPDATE: Rolling several updates into one listing here -- 1) Scrapbook should be back and working again. 2) The problem with the Update Journal page in IE6 and IE7 should be fixed now. 3) The problem with the userpic add-on package pricing has been fixed and refunds issued to anyone who was overcharged while the erroneous prices were in place.
  • Non-conforming images will now be automatically resized for custom mood themes.
  • Line breaks no longer count as two characters against your entry's character limit.
  • We fixed a bug on the Manage Tags page so you can clear all tags and add new tags.
  • We corrected the UI for the update.bml page so it displays properly in IE8.
Thanks again for joining us. Frank and company will be back next week!
